Awards & Scholarships

We are proud to recognize the dedicated individuals selected to receive LeadingAge PA awards and scholarships in 2019. Some have already made tremendous contributions to the field of aging services, and others will have the opportunity to begin their journey this year. We are proud of all of them, as well as of the many unsung heroes at our member organizations who work hard every day to enhance the lives of Pennsylvania seniors.

Distinguished Service Award Winners

We are excited to present the exemplary 2019 DSA winners who set a new standard for excellence in senior services throughout Pennsylvania.

Leader of the Year: Gary Gardner, Senior Vice President of Special Projects, United Methodist Homes

Manager of the Year: Renea Kreamer, Assisted Living Administrator, Green Ridge Village - Presbyterian Senior Living

Innovation of the Year: Youth Healthcare Institute, Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare

Volunteer of the Year - Individual or Group: Catalina "Cathy" Zobel, Resident, Lima Estates - Acts Retirement-Life Communities

Caregiver of the Year - Direct Care: Julie Hurley, Certified Nursing Assistant, The Campus of the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg

Caregiver of the Year - Licensed: Jennifer Chace, Registered Nurse, Lima Estates - Acts Retirement-Life Communities

Staff Member of the Year: Nora Vazquez, Housekeeper, Kirkland Village - Presbyterian Senior Living

2019 Education Scholarship Recipients

We are delighted to award $27,000 in LeadingAge PA scholarships to member staff pursuing further education, training and certification opportunities. Click here to see the 2019 LeadingAge PA scholarship recipients.

Administrator-in-Training Scholarship Recipient

LeadingAge PA is pleased to award a scholarship to one provider member that hosts an administrator-in-training candidate in a Pennsylvania State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators-approved program. The $25,000 scholarship helps to support the member organization with developing leaders in senior living.

In 2019, Garden Spot Village was awarded the AIT scholarship. Its candidate is Christina Rouvre-Haeusler.

Paid College Internship Award Recipients

LeadingAge PA offers paid college internships at member organizations to help promote interest in pursuing a career in nonprofit senior services. We are happy to announce the three winners of the LeadingAge PA $6,000 internship awards for 2019.

  • Bradford Ecumenical Home, Inc. - Finance/Accounting
  • Phoebe Ministries - Music
  • Presbyterian SeniorCare - Communications

Since its inception, LeadingAge PA's Paid College Internship program has provided 15 college students with the opportunity to work at one of our member communities to gain exposure to, and an understanding of, the career possibilities in aging services.
