Position Description:

This position is full-time- hours Monday – Friday,  job requires interacting with elderly clients in a long term living environment. Experience working with Alzheimer’s/Dementia is a must. Individual must be energetic, patient, creative, engaging and able to work well with others. Must be able to facilitate quality groups to engage all high and low functioning dementia and Alzheimer’s clients.  Documentation of resident’s activity progress, and ability to identify resident strengths or weaknesses through the care planning process. Ideal candidate will have positive, outgoing personality. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, be compassionate, and enjoy working with seniors.

Required Qualifications:

Responsibilities

  • 2-4 year’s prior experience leading recreational programs within a dementia/Alzheimer’s skilled nursing facility
  • Plans, prepares, organizes and runs a well-organized program of both group and individual activities for residents on assigned units.
  • Carries out recreational therapy techniques for residents both in groups and individually, including Reality Orientation, Sensory Stimulation and exercise.
  • Counsel and encourages residents to develop and pursue appropriate independent leisure activities.
  • Maintains accurate statistics of each resident’s participation in activities.
  • Reports any resident's health or behavior problems to the Interdisciplinary team.
  • Provides a safe, clean, neat environment for residents participating in activities and assumes responsibility for Resident safety during the program.
  • Attends in-service programs as directed.
  • Compliance with Health Information Privacy (HIPPA) related laws and regulations
  • Must have working knowledge of the methods of recreational therapy, music therapy, and/or activity programming and their application to the activity and leisure needs of persons suffering with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders; Knowledge of the social, psychological, and recreational needs of the aging helpful.
  •  Ability to physically assist residents in need (may require lifting and bending).
  • Must be familiar with PC MATRIX SYSTEM MDS version 3.0 section F, activity triggers/CAA’s, and the care planning process
  •  Must be able to develop activity care plans for residents by identifying resident needs, strengths or weaknesses
  • Must be able to complete necessary resident documentation including-recreation attendance sheets, activity quarterly progress notes, re-admission/significant change notes, activity care plans, initial assessments, and annual assessments 
  • Ability to manage self independently.

 

Qualifications

  • College Degree
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’  related work experience

  • Completion of a formal training program in the area of Therapeutic Recreation
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

  • Certified Activity Director
