Position Description:

Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is seeking a qualified Manager, Therapeutic Recreation for our 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility.  The Manager, Therapeutic Recreation provides leadership, planning, coordination, and day-to-day supervision for the Skilled Care Therapeutic Recreation program and staff.  The Manager reports to the Skilled Care Administrator (N.H.A.), and works collaboratively with nursing staff, Social Workers, and support staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • a Bachelor’s or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Social Work, Education, Therapy / Recreation, or a related field
  •       licensed or registered as a Therapeutic Recreation Director in PAand

a)    eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or

b)    is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant

  • at least 5 years of relevant work experience in a long-term care or healthcare facility
  • at least 2 years of leadership and management experience, including effective experience leading and training staff; managing a program, function, or department; developing, coordinating, and monitoring department policies and procedures; managing a program or department budget
  • thorough knowledge of the effect of cognitive impairment on older adults; understanding of recreation activities appropriate and safe for Residents of a Skilled Nursing Facility
  • high attention and commitment to Resident safety and well-being
  • strong verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills; the ability to interact effectively and in a professional manner with Residents, their family members, colleagues, staff members, and professional associates 
  • the ability to safely push adult Residents in wheel chairs
  • thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations
  • ability and willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays, and to supervise staff who work 7 days per week
