Position Description:

Simpson has retained LeaderStat Premier to assist them in identifying a Vice President of Finance/CFO. Simpson is a not-for-profit owner and operator of three Continuing Care Retirement Communities and two affordable housing communities for seniors in the greater Philadelphia area.  Simpson is related historically and by mission to the United Methodist Church.  The organization’s founding community, Simpson House, originated in 1865 and is the oldest retirement community in the nation related to the United Methodist Church.

The Vice President of Finance/CFO directs the overall financial operations and accounting practices of the organization, including overseeing the preparation of financial statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, cash management, and audit activities of Simpson and subsidiary organizations.  The VP/CFO is responsible for strategic financial planning, forecasting and budgeting.  Contributes to the strategic operational plan including participation in affiliation, acquisition, divestiture and merger activities. The Vice President of Finance develops highly accurate and timely financial and statistical reports for management and Board use. This is the top finance and accounting position for Simpson, who serves as a member of the senior leadership team and supports a culture of excellence where customer service is valued.

The Vice President of Finance/CFO will partner with the President/CEO and senior leadership team to set the strategic direction of the organization. The Simpson strategic Plan calls for growth and expansion of the organization’s mission through affiliations, partnerships, joint ventures and the development of new services including home and community based services.  

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Manages, directs and oversees all financial, accounting, and business planning activities including financial plans, business policies, accounting practices, and financial reporting and analysis
  • Develops, implements, directs and evaluates the organization’s fiscal functions and performance
  • Prepares and submits the annual operating budget and routine financial reports to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Assists independent auditors in conducting the annual audit, maintaining all necessary supporting records and documentation
  • Ensures adequate insurance coverage, timely risk management and insurance claims management
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversees the development of financing strategy for new projects and proposed affiliations, acquisitions and mergers

Required Qualifications:

Experience Requirements:

  • Accounting and financial management skills required with experience dealing with a broad range of accounting, business and financial systems and issues
  • Direct knowledge of and experience with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement preferred
  • Strong leadership, management, planning, administrative and analytical skills
  • Experience with and knowledge of not-for-profit long-term care and senior living environments is preferred
  • Experience overseeing and managing auditors, investment bankers, investment advisors, contracts and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act both strategically and tactically at an executive level


Education Requirements:

  • BA degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance or other closely related business field
  • Minimum 10 years financial management and accounting experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or other closely related business field preferred
