White Horse Village Foundation awards more than $57,000 in scholarships
(Newtown Square, Pa.) — Thirty team members at White Horse Village will get a boost toward achieving their educational goals, as the Foundation awards $57,500 in scholarships for the fall semester.
Residents of the active senior living community are proud to support this cause each year through the White Horse Village Foundation, which also helps meet many other needs in the community. Scholarships are awarded twice a year. Last year, the Foundation gave out $85,000 in scholarships, and with this round of awards, it is already on track to surpass that total this year.
Resident Bud Billups, the Foundation chair, notes, “Today the cost to receive a college education is in many cases increasingly difficult to meet.” He praised the discipline and tenacity of team members pursuing these dreams.
“Awarding scholarships to deserving team members is an extremely rewarding experience,” says Carol Weiss, who leads the resident committee that reviews the applications. “It is indeed a privilege to serve on the committee, knowing that we are assisting team members improve not only their education, but their lives.”
“The residents and the team members build a relationship of respect and appreciation,” says Foundation board member Steven Videon. “Helping the team members further their education by providing a scholarship, I believe, is a great way for the residents to show their appreciation to the various team members. If you look at the scholarships, it’s a great cross-section of individuals as well as career goals. It’s a win/win for both the team members and the residents.”
With these awards, team members are pursuing a wide range of degrees in universities across the region and beyond. Whether in biochemistry or business, physics or nursing, the impact these students will make is a story still untold. The White Horse Village Foundation is pleased to have a part in that story.
