Pleasant View Communities Receives Grant to Support Construction of Makerspace Facility
Penn Township, Lancaster County (September 18, 2026) — Pleasant View Communities was awarded a $600,000 Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support the construction of a makerspace facility, providing educational, artistic, and creative studio spaces that will offer programming opportunities for its retired residents and the local community.
“The makerspace will provide a welcoming environment where people can come together to learn new skills, explore their creativity, and build meaningful intergenerational connections,” Pleasant View President and CEO Jonathan Hollinger said. “We are extremely grateful for the support of Senator James Malone and Representative Mindy Fee, whose advocacy has helped advance the first phase of a project that will enrich the lives of our residents while creating new opportunities for community engagement throughout the region.”
The makerspace marks the next chapter of Pleasant View's ongoing efforts to expand programming and services in response to growing demand for active senior living and community engagement opportunities. Earlier this year, Pleasant View began construction of a new childcare facility at the Pleasant View campus, further advancing efforts to foster connections across generations.
“I was proud to advocate for this project because it creates opportunities for people of all ages in my district,” said Senator James Andrew Malone. “This makerspace will further expand access to education, creativity, and meaningful intergenerational engagement. I look forward to seeing the positive impact it has on the region.”
Pleasant View plans to build upon existing partnerships with organizations, such as the Manheim Community Library and Manheim Central School District, to promote collaboration while supporting personal wellness, social connection, and creative expression. Pleasant View is also exploring additional features for the makerspace, including gallery space to showcase artwork created in the studios, mobile demonstrations featuring specialized crafts, and opportunities for artists-in-residence programs.
“Pleasant View has long been a leader in championing innovative and collaborative projects that benefit not only its residents but the greater Manheim community,” Representative Mindy Fee said. “This project represents a significant step forward in improving the lives of our senior residents in Lancaster County, and I commend Pleasant View for their ongoing effort to bridge the gap between generations.”
Upon completion, the makerspace will complement the Hoffer Farm campus's growing collection of community-focused amenities, including the Kreider Farms Cultural Center, Sunrise Vista Event Space, working farm, and the newly relocated Manheim Community Library.
In addition to seeking grant funding, Pleasant View launched a campaign on August 27, 2026, to invite $350,000+ in gifts from residents, vendors, and community members. As of September 18, they have received $95,000 in gifts and pledges. This includes a new gift to name one of the studios. Pleasant View also received a $75,000 multi-year pledge in 2023 to name the Ceramic/Pottery studio. A 14-member resident committee is working with staff to plan the studio layouts.

The Statewide LSA program is funded through the PA Racehorse Development and Gaming Act. The Commonwealth Financing Authority oversees the distribution of gaming revenues to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth.
