White Horse Village receives $6.5 million gift for Foundation

June 27, 2025

(Newtown Square, Pa.) — The Charitable Foundation at White Horse Village retirement community has received large contributions in the past, but none close to the recent bequest of $6.53 million from a resident’s estate.

The gift comes from the estate of Virginia "Ginner" Mueller and her husband Bob, who predeceased her. The Muellers were among the first residents to move into White Horse Village decades ago. In her last act of generosity, Ginner left a gift to the White Horse Village Foundation’s Resident Reserve Fund. The Foundation supports community life in a variety of ways, but the Resident Reserve Fund has always been its defining feature, ensuring that residents who outlive their resources will always have a home. Mueller’s gift also allocates $5,000 to the Employee Appreciation Fund.

“This remarkable contribution from Ginner greatly improves our Resident Reserve Fund position, providing a sense of security we had not anticipated,” says Bud Billups, chair of the Foundation board. “Ginner Mueller is a name that will not soon be forgotten—and not only because of her extraordinary gift. Their spirit of giving began decades ago, and we are deeply honored by this latest expression of Ginner’s commitment to this community.”

“We are completely thrilled by this amazing gift,” says Foundation Executive Director Susan Abtouche. “This community was like family to Ginner, and she cared deeply about the people here. Her bequest is just one of the many ways she showed that, and it will have an incredible impact on the lives of residents for generations to come.”

Mueller and her husband Bob had long invested generously in the community, having once purchased a $100,000 bus for the use of their fellow residents.

“A spirit of giving shines through in some people, in acts large and small,” says White Horse Village President & CEO Michael Shaw. “This couple was a shining example of that spirit, and we are humbled to receive such a remarkable expression of their generosity for the Foundation.”

In her career, Mueller spent time running a private school and also managing a patent department for an engineering firm. In retirement at White Horse Village, she was active in community life, helping with fundraising for the Residents Association, organizing volunteers to serve in Healthcare, and cooking for friends.

She once said that she was impressed by the amazing spirit of all the residents determined to make White Horse Village not just good, but the best, adding, “And we succeeded.”

Her parting gift will go a long way toward preserving that legacy of outstanding service.
