Deffet Group

Winston-Salem, NC

Deffet Group, Inc. is pleased to have been retained by Arbor Acres to conduct an executive search for a Chief Health and Wellness Officer.

Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community is a not-for-profit, nationally accredited continuing care retirement community in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the only CARF-CCAC accredited CCRC in the city. The community provides a full continuum of residential accommodations including 313 independent living residences, 66 assisted living units, 83 skilled nursing beds, and 30 memory care beds. Also offering an Advantage Program for individuals in the area to become residents of Arbor Acres without an immediate move to campus as well as outstanding home care services, Arbor Acres is home to more than 550 residents served by 400 dedicated staff members.

Reporting to the President/CEO, the CHWO’s primary job is to oversee the development and consistent implementation of processes and strategies to ensure that all residents in the community have access to, and benefit from, a seamless continuation of care regardless of where those services originate. As a result, the position requires the development of relationships with key health and wellness partners in local health and wellness institutions. Additionally, the CHWO is responsible for developing a proactive vision of how technology, clinical practice, programmatic adjustments and research can improve the lives of those we serve.

The ideal candidate will have proven management skills with a deep history in managing licensed operations. Our finalist will have a high level of comfort taking ownership of all healthcare-related issues and can make grounded, thoughtful decisions without requiring supervisory intervention. A compassionate individual of high integrity who embraces Arbor Acres’ commitment to ensuring residents’ lives are full of purpose, creativity, and motivation, the CHWO will be a consummate professional who desires a commitment of service to the organization alongside a dedicated team. The CHWO will be a good listener and open communicator who actively seeks to mentor and develop others’ growth and leadership potential. Our finalist will have mission-driven compassion as well as strong business acumen, bringing creative ideas that can advance the organization programmatically. Customer service and clear, effective communication are core values to the CHWO – whether communicating with residents, family members, external partners, or team members.

A bachelor’s degree and minimum of 5-7 years in a position of similar level of decision-making in the continuing care industry and current or former NHA license in NC (or reciprocity) required. Former NHA preceptor experience highly desired.
